How To Clean Tarnished Silver Bars

How to clean tarnished silver bars. Pop in a teaspoon of salt along with two or three tablespoons of baking soda giving the liquid a stir afterwards. Next you ll need some really hot water. The warmer the water the better but waiting for boiling water to cool down before scrubbing the silver can be time consuming. Microwaving 2 cups of water for 2 3 minutes should suffice and avoid boiling water. Leave it for one hour.
Next add in as much tarnished silver as will fit and sprinkle it all with about a cup or even a bit more of baking soda. First line the bottom of your sink with aluminum foil with the shiny side up. Rather than send in some tarnished silver bullion bars i decided to do a quick clean of the silver bars i was selling. The amount of water you need will depend on the size of the silver bar or the number of coins you need to clean but 500 600ml should suffice in most cases. The reaction of the warm water baking soda and aluminum foil will allow the tarnished silver to clean beautifully.
These 100 oz silver bars i just sold were stored in a dry place uncovered and therefore had oxidized or tarnished a bit over the years as they were exposed to open air. After the time is up take out the silver rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with paper towel or soft cloth.
