How to clean jogging shoes. After each run remove the insoles from your shoes. Sprinkle baking soda into your dry shoes to absorb any lingering smell. Rinse with a wet sponge or towels. Never put shoes in a washing machine because it can damage them. Give your shoes a soak.
Use a soft scrub brush or toothbrush dipped in warm soapy water to clean the outsoles bottoms of the shoes by hand. Leave your shoes in the open air in a dry well ventilated area. For example pour 0 5 cups 120 ml of washing detergent and cup 90 grams of baking soda into a small bowl. Next you ll clean the uppers of your shoes. The upper is the part of the shoe that wraps your foot and how you clean it will depend on what it s made of.
Use a brush to gently remove dust and dirt from the uppers. This creates an abrasive cleaning solution that will help to agitate dirt from your running shoes. Make sure you get the baking soda out before you put the shoes back on. After running in the mud which often happens on trail runs or as soon as your shoes seem dirty remove as much mud as possible before they dry clean with water as described above. Dry in a warm airy place and put scrunched up paper inside the shoe to help speed up the process and hold the shape of the shoe.
Rub the laces between your hands and give the insoles a gentle squeeze too. Let the shoes drain in the empty sink then re squeeze to remove excess water. Scrub them with a mild soap and water solution or gore tex friendly cleaner. Add a little baking soda then let them sit for a few hours and the smell should be gone. Your shoes may look clean but there could still be some lingering funk.
Place your sneaks in a bucket of warm soapy water. Mix equal parts of baking soda and liquid washing detergent in a bowl.
